Black Friday or Cyber Monday?

The holiday shopping season is about to be in full swing, are you ready?  I personally am not a big Black Friday shopper, although I’ve got my eye on a couple good deals this year.  You won’t find me lining up at the stores at the crack of dawn, though!
Every year I tell myself I’m just going to do all my Christmas shopping online, but it never fails I have to run out for a few last-minute gifts.  I usually get at least 50% of my Christmas shopping done online, though.  I missed Cyber Monday last year, but maybe I’ll have a chance to check out some of the special sales this year.

If you’re interested in shopping the sales on Black Friday, be sure and check out this site for a great list of all the ads before they hit the newspaper, so you can prepare your shopping route in advance!
Either way you shop, there are great opportunities on savings on much more than just Christmas gifts.
For instance, JCPenney will be offering their Classic Bath Towel for $2.99, which is a dollar cheaper than their current sale price of $3.98 (regular price of $7.99).  However, it’s easy to get caught up the excitement of a sale, so make sure you’re getting a good deal that’s worth the trip before you buy.

So what’s your shopping strategy?  Do you line up in the wee hours in front of Wal-Mart or stay in your pj’s in front of your computer? What do you head for first?  Electronics? Toys? Clothing? Share your thoughts in the comments and answer the poll at the top left.

  1. I have been doing this for over 12 years, so I've worked out a stragety of sorts with my sister. We always wake early and start with an electronic store. Big ticket items are first because they save the most. Then we slow down the pace and shop for smaller deals. We eat lunch and finish out the day with a lunch and going over how much we've saved. It's more of a fun time together than it is about saving, but we do save a ton!!

  2. In previous years, I have been shopping online ~ I hate the mall and I hate crowds and lines. Unless I happen to be in a store and see something that makes me think of someone, I don't usually go to a store to buy my gifts. This year, it's going to be Homemade Christmas Tuesdays {I picked Tuesday because there is nothing on TV that I like that night!}.

  3. Thank you so much for that link to the ads! I haven't lined up in a long time, but there are two things that I'm trying to get, so I might have to. I need a camera, and I want a netbook. I'm a bigtime online shopper, and I love it! Hate the mall!

  4. Too early and too crowded! That is what I think about Black Friday. I have been shopping online for a long time and will stick with it.

I also can't save money worth a darn, so doing all of my shopping in one day just doesn't work for me.

  6. I don't have much of a plan for shopping. I have only been out once for Black Friday and that was last year. I wanted a trivial prusuit game and they had one on sale for $10 but I didn't get up and out until 7. Still got it.
And I will admit I started my shopping in August. A friend was in town and we went shopping she gave me several ideas and before I forgot I went back and picked up one thing.

  7. By now most everyone is familiar with the term Black Friday 2009, the big shopping day right after Thanksgiving Day. Retail store, including Walmart, open their doors early and lure shoppers in with incredible bargains on certain merchandise. Like others on Thanksgiving Day, Walmart limits these sales to just a few hours, but the items are usually gone well before the deadline.

  8. I just can't drag myself out of bed to shop in the event that I am early enough to get the bargains.

I don't know about you, but in my city, every year there are dozens of reports of people's cars being broken into at the mall on that day. These poor people have all of their recent purchases stolen. I'd rather be home decorating my home.
