Halloween Pug

Gidget has a costume conundrum this Halloween.  She can’t decide what to wear!

Black Widow Spider? IMG_2016 IMG_2009 or Spider Witch?? IMG_1991IMG_1994  Either way, she’ll coordinate with my Spooky Spider Headband!

Halloween Spirit

Since LSU has the weekend off, I’ll suspend “Spirit Friday” in favor of sharing some Halloween/Fall spirit instead.  Check out the gorgeous Halloween door decor my friend, wreath maker extraordinaire, made:

Halloween wreath 019I am all about the glitter and that purple fuzzy spider!

Check out the witch’s legs hanging down! Witch shoes/boots seem to be very popular this year.

More Embellished Bayou Inspiration

Check out the spider headband Rachel from Redpunzel made using my tutorial:

So cute! She added a round bead and gave the spider a head.  I love how it looks against her daughter’s red hair!  A friend of mine said she saw a girl wearing a similar spider on her wrist, how cute would this be as a bracelet/cuff! I may just have to make one for next year.

Edited to add:

Check out these photos Rachel posted on her blog of other spider headbands that were made with my tutorial:

Heidi at The Craft Monkey was inspired by my Ghost Candle Shades and made her own for just $2.00 each with some shades from the thrift store:

I just love the three different faces, I think Frankenstein is my favorite!

It’s so fun to seeing everyone’s different takes on these projects, keep the photos coming!

Fall Decor Inspired by Embellished Bayou

My mom wanted me to show off a couple of her fall  decorations inspired by projects I have featured on my blog before.  I showed you my stenciled glitter pumpkin last week, here is my mom’s version:IMG_1168IMG_1170 I love how she used the copper colored glitter and the pretty bows on top!  These can be displayed all the way through Thanksgiving.

Here’s her mantle all spooked up for Halloween:

I made her some of my ghost candle shades.  What a great idea she had to display them on a stand on top of some tissue paper so they have a little body!

If you’ve been inspired by any of my crafts or tutorials, I would love to see them and feature them on my blog, so be sure and let me know!

Spirit Friday: Embellished Bayou Goes Wholesale

I’m so excited to have just finished my first wholesale embroidery order for a shop in Baton Rouge, LA!  Here are the things I sent:

IMG_2160

I’ve been taking a few items here and there to a local boutique on consignment, but this is my first “big” wholesale order, and hopefully she’ll be a repeat customer!

IMG_2154IMG_2140

Obviously, LSU and Saints merchandise is very hot right now, so I catered my items to that market.

IMG_2151IMG_2150These items will be available in my Etsy shop soon!

The Tigers have a huge game this weekend, and I’m pretty nervous about it.  Who knows how they will do….maybe this is a sign of good luck and they will pull off a big win!

Beaded Spider Headband

I had been planning on making a beaded spider headband even before I saw a cute tutorial over at Tatertots and Jello. I saw a similar headband selling in a local store for $20 but thanks to the generous folks at Artbeads.com, I made mine for next to nothing! IMG_2113IMG_2119IMG_2117So here’s how I made my creepy crawly headwear…. IMG_2089

I used some black plastic beads I had on hand along with some Swarovski crystal beads and a large Swarovski rhinestone from Artbeads.comIMG_2088You’ll also need a headband, some jewelry wire, needle nose pliers, a small piece of felt, and hot glue (not pictured).

IMG_2090 Cut four lengths of wire an equal length in proportion to your center crystal and lay them across the piece of felt, gathering them in the center.

IMG_2091

Hot glue your center crystal on top of the wire and the felt. IMG_2092IMG_2093 IMG_2094 Now just start stringing your beads on the wire in any pattern you choose.  After stringing the beads on each leg, use the needle nose pliers to curl the wire into a loop to secure the beads.

IMG_2095 Now trim the felt so it doesn’t show behind the rhinestone.  IMG_2097

Hot glue the spider onto your headband.

 IMG_2100IMG_2101

Trim another piece of felt and glue it on the underside of the headband.

IMG_2102

Crimp and arrange your little spider legs and enjoy!
