My mom has been itching to get a fancy new front door for quite some time now. Unfortunately, the high end wood and leaded glass variety that she really wanted just wasn’t in the budget, so she made do with what she had….some paint and wall plaques from TJ Maxx!
She forgot to take a good before photo, but here’s one from when I featured her Mardi Gras wreath:
Here’s the door during transformation:
As you can see, they painted the surround, removed the molding from the door and had to fill the divots with Bond-o and sand before painting.
And here’s the fabulous after:
She found the wall plaques at TJ Maxx and just screwed them right into the door!
The red and brown really pops against the neutral brick and the plaques definitely make it unique!
She also painted the back door. Once again, no good before photo, but it was just a boring beige:
And now it pops with color! Such a beautiful transformation requiring a few basic supplies and a lot of elbow grease! Great job, Mom!

I have been wanting to paint my from door a color, other than white, for a long time now. I just chicken out. I love how the color pops the door out and says "Welcome". I am going to try to get some courage. Thanks for sharing.

Good for your mom! She did a fabulous job! So clever using the plaques.
ReplyDeleteThat looks amazing!!! Your projects (and your mom's) make me really wish I owned our house so I could do fun stuff like this too. We rent, so we're limited. :(

Wow. I wouldn't have enough guts to do that project. I'd be worried I'd mess up the door. It turned out great!
ReplyDeleteI’m having a new link party “Cheap Thrills Thursday” starting the 29th. It’s for creative ideas that cost under $20. I’d love for you to stop by and join in!
