Happy Mardi Gras!

For the first time since I can remember (maybe ever?!) I am away from Louisiana on Mardi Gras!  Actually, I am travelling home today, but I missed the weekend parades and Mardi Gras will be all but over when I get home.

I did have fun making some cute onesies and t-shirts for my Etsy shop.  The king cake design was new this year.

I’ll just have to rely on memories of past Mardi Gras fun times and look forward to next year!  Check out THIS post from a couple years ago for some of my Mardi Gras memories.

Mike’s Special Shrimp

One of our favorite restaurants to visit when we head down to Baton Rouge for LSU games is the legendary Mike Anderson’s.  I hope they are re-open in time for the 2012 season after a recent fire! I got a craving for one of his specialties and decided to whip it up myself.  Luckily I had this cookbook on hand to guide me.

This recipe serves 4 to 6 people, and since it’s just the two of us, I improvised a little, cutting the butter way down to about half a stick and Worcestershire sauce to about 1/2 cup.

Popped it a 375 degree oven for about 15 minutes until done and bubbly.

Together with a sweet potato and some edamame, it was a delicious and nutritious meal, not to mention quick and easy!

Gidget’s True Love

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I hope you’re able to spend the day with someone you love.  Speaking of love, let’s talk a little about Gidget’s true love…..BACON! If there is such thing as re-hab for bacon addiction, then Gidget surely needs to check-in ASAP!

Gidget knows when it’s Saturday morning, because that’s the day we all sleep in and no one gets up early.  Saturday is BACON day!  She eagerly awaits us to finish our breakfast so she can get her own special treat.

Soon this calm, poised pug will spin herself into a frenzy across the kitchen floor for a taste of that meaty goodness!

Almost time…..

Finally, her patience is rewarded!

Wonder what the daily recommended intake of bacon is for pugs?!  About the same as chocolate is for me, I bet….

Words of Inspiration

Sometimes we all need a little “pick-me-up,” someone to encourage us, or an inspirational passage or phrase to repeat to ourselves.  I’ve found some encouraging words on Facebook of all places.  One of the fan pages I follow, Infinitely Sweet, posts daily “affirmations,” if you will, and I have come to look forward to them everyday.

The following quotes are copied directly from Infinitely Sweet’s page, so I can’t take credit for them nor do I know the original source of  the quotes.  Here are just a few recent ones that spoke to me:

“Never give up. There is no such thing as an ending. Just a new beginning. I think everyone at some point, goes through that one moment where they think “Oh God, I can’t do this”. But you know what? You can!~

Everything works out in the end. If it hasn't worked out, it's not the end... Never regret your past, only regret if you don't learn from it.~

Every morning you are faced with two choices: You can aimlessly stumble through the day not knowing what’s going to happen and worry about it. Or you can go through the day directing your own life and making your own decisions and destiny.~”

“Your journey has molded you for greater good. And it was exactly what it needed to be. Don't think that you've lost time. It took each and every situation that you encountered to bring you to the now. And now is right on time.~

Instead of wishing you were someone else, be proud of who you are. You never know who has been looking at you wishing they were you...~

You are exactly who & what & where you are supposed to be and you are lovely!~

Someday everything will make perfect sense. So for now, laugh at the confusion, smile through the tears and keep reminding yourself that everything happens for a reason~”

“The only people with whom you should try to get even are those who have helped you.~

Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.~

Strength isn't about never falling down or being broken; True Strength is having the Courage to rise after falling; And walking step by step, into Healing, Laughter, and Life again~

When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile!~”

Where do you look for your strength and inspiration?

Happy Friday!

Sweet Baby Girl Gift Basket

I put together a “Pretty in Pink” gift basket for my friend’s new baby girl, who arrived safely yesterday!

Everything looked so sweet and precious in this metal fleur de lis bucket that I just had to share.

I included a monogrammed blanket, a personalized frame, a monogrammed towel, plenty of baby gowns and onesies, some bloomers, a pair of cute socks, some bath essentials, and a pink tutu.

I got a little help from my mother-in-law on these, I did the embroidery on the tops of these onesies and she sewed on the minky bottom to make a soft and cuddly baby gown.

Since she was born so close to Valentine’s Day, I couldn’t resist making a couple of Valentine’s outfits.  I just hope they fit her!

Everything is so sugary-sweet it’s giving me a toothache just looking at it all!
